Recreation Therapist

Regina Rodrigues is the founder of Olive Recreational Therapy, an oasis of personalized care and holistic well-being for the elderly. Specializing in personalized one-on-one and group programs, Olive Recreational Therapy aims to foster the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and spiritual well-being of each client.

A compassionate and dedicated professional, Regina’s mission is to enhance the lives of older adults through personalized care and meaningful engagement. Her journey into the realm of recreation therapy and social service work in gerontology was sparked by a pivotal experience during her mother’s 5-month hospitalization, during which she bore witness to the silent struggles of aging individuals left to navigate their final years of life alone.

After witnessing the loneliness and lack of support experienced by many during this time, Regina’s passion was fueled. With her mother’s passing, Regina’s purpose to serve and illuminate the lives of others, was born. She set out on a path of volunteerism, academic pursuit, and professional development, all of which culminated in the creation of Olive Recreational Therapy as a testament to her mother’s legacy.

Regina’s approach is characterized by a preventive, proactive, and holistic methodology, tailored to suit the unique strengths and needs of every individual. From homes to retirement communities, hospitals, and beyond, her services extend with unwavering support to those grappling with conditions ranging from dementia and social isolation to anxiety, depression, bereavement, and physical disabilities.

With a rich background spanning recreation programming, Regina has cultivated a profound understanding of the diverse needs of seniors. Her remarkable ability to develop and implement tailored wellness programs has been honed through years of close interaction with seniors at home, residents in long-term homes, and retirement community members.

Her dedication to continuous learning is evident through her extensive certifications, including Senior Fitness Instructor, Laughter Yoga Instructor, and Therapeutic Horticulture Ally, which she integrates seamlessly into her practice to promote holistic well-being among her clients, such as The Meadows of Aurora. It is also evident through her years of volunteerism in centres such as the Newmarket Health Centre. Regina holds a designation with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario.

Regina’s story is a story of resilience, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Inspired by her personal journey of caregiving, she stands as a beacon of compassion and entrepreneurship. Olive Recreational Therapy is the embodiment of her purpose, through which Regina will leave a lasting impact, making a tangible difference on the community and the lives she touches.
